About Birdwood Mount Pleasant Table Tennis Club

Welcome to Birdwood Mount Pleasant Table Tennis Club – a long established club where our love for table tennis has been going strong since the '40s!

Picture it: Birdwood in the 1940s – a time of change, music, and of course, table tennis. That’s when it all began for us.

We’re all about embracing the past, but let’s talk about today and what makes our club ‘groovy’ (sorry, had to do it!) …

We have a diverse group of players (of all ages and skill levels) who range from being really passionate about table tennis, to some who just enjoy getting out for a casual and friendly/social hit!

For those interested in competition, we play in the Torrens Valley Table Tennis competition within the Adelaide Hills. We have have teams in all grades, and cater to all age groups.

So, no matter who you are, if you can swing a paddle, you’ll probably fit in!

We also keep our facilities and tables modern and up to date!

History Of The Birdwood Mount Pleasant Table Tennis Club

Birdwood Mount Pleasant Table Tennis Club is a club with a rich history.

Allow us to walk you through some of that history, and describe some of the key past events and achievements of the club.

We will also outline where the club is at right now, in addition to sharing potential future plans.

Past

What is now known as the Birdwood Mount Pleasant Table Tennis Club was originally established in 1948.

At the time of establishment, it was only the ‘Birdwood Table Tennis Club’

The club later amalgamated to become ‘Birdwood Mount Pleasant Table Tennis Club’. By 1987, we had joined the Barossa and Light Association, and in that year, we experienced our first premiership.

This period was a very successful period for the club, as the A grade achieved multiple premierships around this time.

In the first 50 years of the club’s operation (through to 1998), we moved venues multiple times, and there were 275 players that represented the club in that time span.

We held our 50 year anniversary on August 23, 1998 – suffice to say it was a significant event, with over 200 people converging to celebrate. It was a colourful day/night that even received it’s own write up in the local mail!

Present

The club is due to hit another big milestone in 2024, reaching it’s 75th birthday!

We currently have a great diversity of members/players, ranging from quite young, through to some members even reaching their 80’s.

We are a family orientated club, with some families even participating as teams at the club! Throughout the club’s history, there’s even been a few people that have met through the club, and have gotten married!

The club’s capacity is also quite good – having the ability to put up a dozen or more tables for play/matches.

So, the club is somewhat thriving! We might even be the only club in the State that has our own little mini club room!
